Class: Bead Encrusted Cabochons/Buttons
This class covers the creation of a three beaded cabochons (buttons with metal shanks can be substituted in place of cabochons for this course). A cabochon is a stone that has a flat back. Today, cabochons often are manufactured of resin, acrylic, or glass...and might include a raised cameo or artistic scene etched into the faux stone. Some cabochons are smooth with a decal adhered to the front. Large flat backed beads can also be beaded as cabochons.

The Class is taught in 3 Lessons with breaks in-between.

Lesson One covers the discussion of suitable supplies, consideratons when selecting cabochons for beading, preparation of cabochons, and adapting shank buttons for use as cabochons. Students will gather supplies, select appropriate cabochons and prepare them for beading.

Lesson Two covers surface beading techniques. Students will encase three cabochons.

Lesson Three covers freeform beading techniques. Students will create a beaded fringe for each of the three beaded cabochons (one will include bicone crystals).
